It is only three months into the Usul-ud Deen program, and yet lasting friendships have already formed between these students. No barriers; age, racial or otherwise. Just a strong, common bond...their love for Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'Ala)
The Prophet (Peace be upon Him) said, "The example of a good pious companion and an evil one is that of a person carrying musk and another a furnace bellow. The one who is carrying musk, will either give you some perfume as a present, or you will buy some from him, or you will get a good smell from him. But the one who is blowing on fire, will either burn your clothes or you will get a bad smell." (Bukhari 5534)
This week, the students share a glimpse into their beautiful friendships in their own personal ways; through a poem written for a dear one as she takes a short leave to visit family, through a photo diary of a spiritual retreat taken with friends, and through just a candid picture taken while 'hanging out' at their apartment after a busy day in class.
I miss her already and she hasn't even left
The unofficial tea maker
Always adorned with a ready smile
A seeker, diplomat, and occasionally a feisty little bugga'
What may seem like distaste to an unfamiliar eye
Is really a deep pact to care and defend
Only she can get away with cheekiness and not offend
I love her enthusiasm, generosity, thoughtfulness, and care
And can't help but love her more while Chips O'Hoy we share
In some realm we're two of a kind, though I mean not to insult
She can hold her own but is innocent and vulnerable in ways most do not perceive
Much respect for one who now takes a short-term leave
May we be united once again in the best of both worlds
InshaAllah wa ameen!
15 or 30, age is irrelevant. The goal is common
Hiking the Appalachian Trail with plenty of stops to rest and make some dhikr in the harmony with the trees and stones and mountains around us.
"Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the examples we set out for the people so that they may reflect." [Surah Hashr, 21]
It's so humbling to stand in the shadows of these mountains and recall the true weight of the Quran with this verse in mind.
"Not a leaf falls but that He knows it" [Surah al-An'am, 59] Truly Allah is All-Seeing, All-Hearing, and All-Knowing.
